The workshop was fab yet intimidating. Thought-provoking and inspirational. We should all just quit dance now! Because like Liza said, we fail in life! HAHAHA! For all the three choreographers and choreography, the beginning part was the only easy part. As the hours wore on and the choreography progressed, we somehow just got lost and didnt manage to hit it. Or maybe it was just me.
Patrick was up first and he choreographed to Janet’s – That’s the Way Love Goes. MEH! Every single detail, every single movement hit on some beat of the music. And it was awesome. The choreography was spectacular and the musicality is PHWOAR! I AM SO JEALOUS! How do these people come up with amazing choreography! I wanna pick their brains!
I pretty much managed to get the first part of the choreography but then got lost somewhere along the back. When it came to the turn, however, that was a piece of cake. Haha. And I felt, “HEY I DID IT! That was chicken feet (feat/feed?)” amidst the wretched feelings of “OMG. HELP ME.”
*insert flailing arms*
Of course the best part was when Patrick Chen demonstrated the choreography himself. I swear, at that moment the money that we paid was all worth it. Hahaha. *flail more arms* His control, his precision. Only one word to say it all:
PHWOAR!!~!!!~~!~!
*cue squealing and googly eyes and faints all around*
The looks of astonishment, adoration, from both girls AND guys alike, and girls squealing into their friends tee-shirts after the demonstration was evidence of his godliness. HAHAHA. Patrick Chen, we heart you! He is teh hotness yo. I honestly had no idea how this man looked like prior to the workshop (shame on me!) even though I’ve watched their greatness on YouTube. But when he walked in and all I got was a glimpse of his back view, the multi-coloured mohawk and just something about the way he carried himself signalled greatness. Hahaha. It was love at first sight.
Gigi Torries was up next. And she threw her Smooth Chick choreo at us.
I loved the choreography. I mean what’s new? But it was tres hard because it challenged us to think about isolations and be very aware of our footwork. Her moves were “simple”, like you didnt have to be an expert to be able to just step out on 1, 2. But the tricky piece was having to put it all together at an incredibly fast pace. AND making it all look BIG. Gigi was EXPLOSIVE no matter what she did. And it always boggles my mind how they do it. Bah humbug.
Finally, at the third hour, Lee with his slick moves taught us a choreography which I thought was rather jazz inclined. All those lines and extensions. I was thinking to myself, “Hey this is something I can totally get.”
WRONG!
It was insane. By the time I wanted to start dancing, the song was over. HUH? My goodness. I was either too slow or the music was too fast. HAHAHA. I shall hide under my covers and never face the sun again. Maybe if he’d used a slower piece of music and turned it to lyrical jazz, I’d so gotten it. But no, twas lyrical Hip Hop and I SUCK!!!
Oh did I forget to mention that Patrick and Gigi did Lee’s choreo too? And they totally rocked it. AHHHHHHHH! Twas amazing watching them cos they injected their own flava into the choreography. Gigi of course was explosive, Patrick was controlled and smooth whilst Lee was slick, groovy yet fierce. RAWR! I still dont believe that Lee’s not jazz trained. He was doing all those turns before class started and they looked seamless. Phooey! From the horses mouth, “… not classically trained. I just practice.” YEAH RIGHT! Liza called him a liar after that. Hahaha.
At the end, I remember Patrick (or was it Lee. I think it was Lee) who said that all of them have choreographed not just the to beats which is the conventional and “traditional” way of dancing. Lee said it’s about dancing from within and from “another place” and that the mirror is but a reflection. It’s about projection. The choreography he taught us was his favourite piece (and it’s starting to be mine too because of the lyrics and I can totally relate) and that we should feel it. This of course translates to the any other choreography. It was all very inspirational.
Sigh.
At the end, it was inevitable not to go around taking pictures with the superstars. I mean how often do we get international dance stars coming to teeny Singapore.

From the inside of the Esplande Theatre Studio.

Dancers waiting for the greatness that is dance2xs.

The tired but happy campers!

With Gigi Torres! *squeeeeeeeeeeee* She’s so cute la.

With Mr-Slick-Moves-Never-Been-Classically-Trained Lee.

With Patrick Chen! Haha. He likes to make stupid faces when he’s taking pictures.
Like I said, the workshop was eye-opening and it forced me to think about my personal growth and inclination in dance. But that’s another story altogether. My personal life may be in shambles, but I can always help clarify certain things when my friends need it. Happiness is contagious. I just wish it were for me.
Time to get stuck on Heroes. Im on Episode 13 already. WAHAHAHAHA!
SYLAR!
